With the season getting into swing.. we want to introduce you to our amazing team riders! Each month we will have a new team rider share a little bit about themselves. For the month of October, we have California Chica and November TWS ad girl Danika Duffy. Hailing from Manhattan Beach, she grew up with her surf guru parents but found her passion on the snow and made Mammoth Mountain her stomping grounds.
She had a kick-ass 2010/11 season with some of her big achievements including 1st in slopestyle at the Gatorade Free Flow Finals, 1st in slopestyle and halfpipe at Northstart Burton Am and 1st at Mammoth’s Volcom PBRJ, to name a few. We’re more than stoked to see what she has in store for this season! Let’s see what this blonde bombshell has to say..
So how was your summer? How was your time in New Zealand?
My summer was FANTASTIC. It was seriously the best summer of my entire life; there are no words to really describe it. I was in Oregon for a little over two weeks, home in California for a few days, then in New Zealand for almost three months! Crazy! I trained really hard and it definitely paid off. I feel really excited and ready for this winter now! One of the highlights of my trip was going bungee jumping on my birthday-I don’t think I have ever been so scared!
Where are you going to be riding this season? Travel Plans?Goals?
This season I will be riding mostly at Mammoth, my home mountain. I qualified for the Dew Tour this year through the Gatorade Free Flow Tour, and I will be traveling a lot for those. My main goal is really to land some runs that I am proud of when I’m at Dew Tour. This year will also be the inaugural slope style world championships, and to qualify for those would be amazing.
What’s been your most embarrassing moment snowboarding?
My whole life is pretty much one embarrassing moment after another….its hard to pick just one! I always seem to catch my edge doing something like the falling leaf when everyone can see me from the chairlift. That is embarrassing!
What’s it like being 21 now? Have a favorite drink at the bar so far?
Being 21 makes me feel old! I was in New Zealand for my birthday, so I was already legally able to go to the bars before that, which was kind of a let down. I still haven’t legally ordered a drink here in the US because I am not going to drink alcohol until after the final stop at the Dew Tour in February. When I do order my first legal drink though, I am thinking it will be a CC and Dry!
Guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is definitely the magazine Cosmopolitan. I read every issue religiously and bring them around with me everywhere!
What’s one thing guys do that piss you off?
I have been pretty unlucky in my ventures with the male sex. It has kind of gotten to the point where all they have to do is exhale too loudly and I’m like, “REALLY!?” If I had to pick one pet peeve, I would say it is most annoying when boys don’t call you when they say they are going to call. It is fine of you don’t want to talk to me, but don’t tell me you’re going to call me unless you actually plan on following through with it! It is not rocket science here, people!
I hear you’re a Harry Potter fan.. who’s your favorite character?
Harry Potter is the single greatest love of my life, besides snowboarding. My favorite character is Hermione, because as a child I really wanted to be her. Not like her. I literally wanted to be a fictional British brainiac.
What would be your weapon of choice for a zombie apocalypse?
My friend and I actually had many in depth discussions on what would happen if a zombie apocalypse occurred. We did some hefty research, and the only true way to kill a zombie is by cutting it’s head off and putting it through a woodchipper. My weapon would of choice would definitely be a woodchipper.
How does snowboarding make you feel in one word?
Snowboarding makes me feel alive!
What’s your favorite Betty Rides piece you own this year?
I loved the acid wash line from Betty Rides this year. I wore my pink acid wash coat everywhere!
